A student of the Rivers State University (RSU) identified simply as Emmanuel has drowned in a swimming pool of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

The 100-level student, who hailed from Ogun State, was said to have gone with three friends to swim in the Olympic-size pool.

Police have taken two of the friends in for questioning.

The remains of the freshman have been deposited at the mortuary of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

The institution has banned what they called pleasure swimming at the facility.

Spokesman of the institution Sam Kpenu said the “Rivers State University of the Faculty of Marine Engineering drowned in a pool at the Abuja campus of UNIPORT.
