Real Madrid comfortably dispatched early season high-flyers Girona 3-0 away from home on Saturday evening, to go top of La Liga. Goals from Joselu, Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham secured a routine victory for Carlo Ancelotti’s side against the Catalan club who had won six of their opening seven fixtures.

Joselu opened the scoring for Los Blancos after Girona had spurned an early chance to take the lead themselves. The former Alaves striker latched onto a cross from Bellingham to slot home past Paulo Gazzaniga. Just minutes later, it was 2-0 thanks to Tchouameni’s bullet header from a Toni Kroos corner.

Girona keeper, Gazzaniga, denied Bellingham and Kroos from extending Madrid’s lead before the break. The English teenager was not to be denied again however, slamming home after Joselu’s saved shot as the game ended on a sour note for the visitors as captain Nacho was sent off in stoppage time following a VAR review. The defender initially only received a yellow card for a high challenge on Portu but it was upgraded to a straight red after another look from the referee.

Despite Nacho’s dismissal, it was ultimately a comfortable evening for Ancelotti’s men as they overpowered Girona to move top of La Liga. Bellingham and Joselu impressed in attack while Tchouameni will be pleased his first goal kindly to make it 3-0.
