Police Service Commission Orders Police Panel to Close out Abba Kyari Investigation In Two Weeks

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has asked the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to conclude in two weeks its investigation on the case involving the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

The Commission, in a statement signed by the Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, also directed that the investigation should be carried out by a different panel.

The commission took the decision on Friday at the continuation of its 14th plenary meeting, chaired by retired Inspector-General of Police and Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Musiliu Smith.

THEWILL recalls that the PSC had on 26th January, 2022, directed the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to expand investigations into the alleged connection between Kyari and Hushpuppi.

The Commission had given the IGP two weeks to turn in a report that would be reviewed by the PSC’s Committee on Discipline.

THEWILL further gathered that the directive to the IGP was sequel to the advice from the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

DCP Kyari had been suspended in July 2021, for alleged involvement in a $1.1 million Internet fraud allegedly perpetrated by Hushpuppi and four others; AbdulRahman Juma (Abdul); Vincent Chibuzo (Kelly); Rukayat Fashola (Morayo); and Bolatito Agbabiaka (Bolamide).

A report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States of America had indicted him in the case of fraud involving Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi.

Special Agent, Andrew Innocenti, had alleged that Hushpuppi contracted the services of Kyari after a “co-conspirator,” Chibuzo Vincent, allegedly threatened to expose the alleged $1.1m fraud committed against a Qatari businessman.

Innocenti, who said he obtained voice calls and WhatsApp conversations between Kyari and Hushpuppi, had also alleged that the latter paid the police officer N8m or $20,600 for the arrest and detention of Vincent.

The United States Attorney’s Office at the Central District of California had ordered the FBI to arrest Kyari almost a year ago.
