Parents rejoice as kidnapped students are freed in Kaduna, Niger and Zamfara

In Zamfara, the abducted students and staff of the College Of Agriculture and Animal Science, Bakura, regained their freedom some 12 days after gunmen whisked them away from the institution.

The Governor of the state Muhammad Bello Matawalle said they were freed through the help of repentant bandits and no ransom was paid for their release. They were brought to the Government House in Gusau in a bus amid heavy security and were received by the Governor and top officials of the state.

* In Kaduna, bandits released 32 of the remaining 63 abducted students of Bethel Baptist High School in Damishi, Kaduna state. Joseph Hayab, chairman of the Kaduna state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who confirmed the students’ release on Friday, said they have been reunited with their parents.

* 92 pupils of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya School, who were released on Thursday, were received yesterday by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state Friday afternoon.

” There is sickness and madness in the heads of people who kidnapped these pupils. I cannot understand how you abduct a 3-year old and keep him for more than two months,” Bello said.

The governor said now that the pupils had been released government will “go after the kidnappers and bring them to justice”.

The head teacher of the school Alhaji Alhassan Abubakar Garba in an interview said the school will not be shut as a result of the incident, adding that the school will however be reorganised.
