INEC declares Anambra election inconclusive, fixes date for supplementary poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday suspended the collation of results for the Anambra governorship election.

Florence Obi, the returning officer for the election, announced this at a few minutes past 12am on Monday.

According to her, the decision to suspend the collation of results is to give room for a supplementary election in Ihiala LGA on November 9.

The collation officer for Ihiala LGA had, on Sunday, said there was no election in the entire area, which INEC attributed to security reasons.

At the suspension of the exercise, Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), had secured the majority of the votes.

The APGA candidate won in 17 of the 21 local government areas of the state. One local government was won by the PDP candidate (Valentine Ozigbo) while the candidate of the YPP, Ifeanyi Ubah, also won in one local government.

The total votes for the parties are APGA -99,160; PDP -49,475; APC- 40,270 and YPP -20,292
