Ganduje proposes N196.3bn budget for 2022

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has presented N196.3 billion as the total budget proposal for the 2022 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

He tagged the proposed appropriation bill ‘A budget of consolidation and prosperity, made the presentation at the Assembly on Thursday.

In the proposed budget, the education sector received the largest share with N51.6 billion, representing 26% while the health sector got N15 billion.

With the total recurrent revenue to be collected proposed at N146.8 billion, the governor proposed N33 billion as Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and N37 billion as revenue from Valued Added Tax (VAT) while the state will still depend majorly on statutory allocation which was estimated at N68.2 billion.

The governor said while the total proposed expenditure is N196.3 billion, capital expenditure will gulp N107.8 billion while recurrent expenditure is proposed at N88.4 billion.

Earlier, while giving a report on the 2021 fiscal year budget, the governor said out of the N107.8 billion total recurrent revenue approved for 2021, N83.1 was collected as of the end of September, representing 77% performance.

He also revealed that of the total N83.4 billion approved for recurrent expenditure in 2021, N59.3 billion was spent as of September ending representing 71% performance.

However, for capital expenditure, the performance was 48% as only N55.2 billion was the actual expenditure out of N114.4 billion approved for 2021.

The speaker of the house, Engineer Hamisu Chidari, assured that the Assembly would swing into action to pass the budget before the end of 2021 without compromising.

He acknowledged the effect of shortage in revenue, especially in the reduction in IGR, noting that Kano is worst hit by the predicament but urged for increased efforts to ameliorate the effect.
