FG says 17.7m fully vaccinated against COVID-19

The Federal Government on Wednesday said that over 17.7 million Nigerians are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pandemic, representing 15.8 per cent of the eligible population.

As of May 24, 29,651,708 eligible persons have received the 1st dose of the COVID-19 vaccines, which represents 23.4 per cent of the country’s eligible population, while 14,179,966 people have received the second dose.

It said 1,178,604 people have received the booster dose of the vaccine.

The Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib, made this known in Abuja while receiving four million, four hundred thousand (4,400,000) doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Government of Spain.

He said: “I must let you know that this donation came when it is most needed, as we are rapidly ramping up our full vaccination coverage. The single-dose regimen of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will enable us to move rapidly towards achieving herd immunity.

“I urge people aged 18 years and above, including expectant mothers and breastfeeding mothers, who are yet to receive their COVID-19 vaccines, or who are due for their second or booster dose, to visit the nearest health facility and get vaccinated.”

The Ambassador of Spain, Juan Ignacio Sell, said: “Spain is not alone in this endeavour. This donation is part of a larger one together with the EU and other member-states, and a very fine example of the many things we do as Team Europe in Nigeria.”
