US President Donald Trump left the hospital briefly to greet supporters in a short motorcade yesterday. Wearing a mask, the president waved inside a car moments after tweeting that he would pay a “surprise visit”.
In the tweet he said he had learned a lot about the virus. His doctors also said Trump continued to improve and might be discharged as early as Monday. Dr Sean Conley said the president’s oxygen level dropped twice since his diagnosis, and he was started on a steroid called dexamethasone; he had refused to confirm that a day earlier.
At least seven people who attended a White House event last week, including the Trumps, have now tested positive
Trump, 74, has been criticised for playing down severity of virus and often spurning masks and social distancing.
