23 Jul Developing Story: Sunday Igboho arraigned, remanded in custody
Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho) was yesterday arraigned in a Beninese court in Cotonou on immigration-related offences. The hearing lasted for more than six hours at Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic.
After three sessions, which started at 10am and ended at about 8pm, the court ordered the release of Igboho’s wife, Ropo, while the activist was returned to cell. The hearing was adjourned till Friday.
Sources say Igboho, who was represented by a Beninoise lawyer, may have to defend the allegation of holding a fake passport with which he was about to travel to Europe before his arrest at the Cotonou Airport on Monday night.
His supporters were in court on Thursday but nobody was allowed into the court room except lawyers.
It was also learnt that the Nigerian government did not file extradition charges against Igboho.
The hearing of a case against the Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, lasted for more than six hours on Thursday at Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou on Monday while trying to catch a flight to Germany.
Yomi Alliyu, counsel to Igboho confirmed the failure of the FG to file charges in court on Thursday.
