COVID-19 Update: Nigeria maintains travel advisory on Brazil, others 

The Federal Government has issued travel advisory to Nigerians to Brazil, India, Turkey, citing risks of the pandemic.

Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, issued the advisory at a Town Hall Meeting on COVID-19 vaccination for the North East Zone in Yola, Adamawa State, which was organised by the PSC in collaboration with National Primary Health Care Development Agency.

Mustapha, who was represented by Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, Minister of the Environment, said Nigeria has the responsibility to safeguard the health of its people and block any chance to spread the COVID-19 in the country.

“Consequently, any person who had visited Brazil, India and Turkey within 14 days preceding travel to Nigeria shall be denied entry into Nigeria,” he said

* Wednesday Casebox: On Wednesday Nigeria recorded 64 new cases and zero deaths, taking the new tally to 166, 982 confirmed cases, with 163328 recoveries and 2117 deaths

The 64 new cases were reported from 10 states as follows: Yobe (18), Lagos (16), Delta (10), Katsina (7), Gombe (5), Edo (2), Kano (2), Rivers (2), Kaduna (1), and Kwara (1).

* More than 174.3 million people in over 210 countries and territories have been reported to be infected and 3,901,422​ have died since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.

* India reported on Thursday the highest single-day death toll from COVID-19 in the world, at 6,148, after Bihar, a big eastern state, revised its figures to account for people who succumbed to the disease at home or in private hospitals. The United States had recorded 5,444 COVID-19 deaths on Feb. 12. India’s total COVID-19 case load now stands at 29.2 million after rising by 94,052 in the past 24 hours, while total fatalities are at 359,676, according to data from the health ministry.
