COVID-19 Update: FG fixes new date for second batch of vaccination

The Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19 has said that the second phase vaccination against COVID-19 will now begin on August 16, 2021.

The Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and a member of the PSC, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, said this on Monday.

The exercise, which was supposed to commence on Tuesday, August 10, 2021, was postponed on Sunday night.

“The start date for the vaccination has been postponed to next week Monday. This is to enable NAFDAC to finish its assessment and preparatory processes,” Shuaibu said.

The Federal Government has announced that Nigeria would receive 176,000 of Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines tomorrow.

Nigeria also expects to receive 700,000 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to enable those who have received their first jab to get their second dose.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Faisal Shuaib, said, “Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is expected in two days’ time (by Wednesday). It is not in large amount of doses. We expect 176,000 doses from the communication we have received so far. We have mapped out the target population in hard to reach areas.

Monday Caseload: Nigeria reported 422 new cases and 5 deaths on Monday, raising the caseload to  178508 confirmed,  165983 recoveries and  2192 deaths.

The 422 new cases are reported from 9 states as follows: Lagos (190), Rivers (86), Ogun (85), Oyo (22), FCT (20), Kwara (7), Edo (5), Abia (4), and Bayelsa (3)
