COVID-19: Nigeria to receive 4 million doses of vaccine on Tuesday

Boss Mustapha, chairman of the presidential task force (PTF) and secretary to the government of the federation, says Nigeria will receive four million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday.

It is expected to come through the COVAX facility, which is co-led by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI).

“I can assure you that the vaccines are coming and they are coming very quickly barring any change in the delivery plan that has been released to us by UNICEF,” Mustapha said.

* The Saturday Caseload: Yesterday, Nigeria recorded a relatively low 341 new cases and 3 deaths, lowest daily infection, deaths since December. That takes the total to 155,417 confirmed cases; 133,256 recoveries and 1905 deaths.

The 341 new cases are reported from 21 states- Lagos (96), Rivers (41), Kaduna (33), Edo (21), Osun (20), Akwa Ibom (17), FCT (17), Ondo (15), Gombe (11), Kano (11), Imo (10), Ekiti (9), Kebbi (9), Kwara (8), Oyo (8), Borno (6), Enugu (3), Plateau (3), Delta (1), Niger (1) and Ogun (1)

* US regulators have formally approved the single-shot Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine, the third jab to be authorised in the country. The vaccine is set to be a cost-effective alternative to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and can be stored in a refrigerator instead of a freezer.
