🌎At the Cardoso confirmation
The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Yemi Cardoso as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor and four others as deputy governors of the apex bank. They were confirmed on Tuesday following a screening by the upper legislative body. The deputy governors who were confirmed are Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello. Cardoso promised that his administration would inculcate a culture of compliance into the apex bank by adhering strictly to the CBN Act 2007.
*Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the redesigned Naira notes introduced by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele, prior to the last general election, was meant to disrupt the conduct of the polls.

🌎Oil prices rose by more than $1 a barrel on Wednesday as markets focused on supply tightness heading into winter and a “soft landing” for the U.S. economy. Brent crude futures were up 85 cents, or 0.9%, to $94.81 a barrel by 0827 GMT, after rising by as much as $1.03.

*President Bola Tinubu has asked the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to introduce novel ideas to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the country. Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the 31st meeting of Heads of National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies, Africa (HONLAF) in Abuja on Tuesday, the president said he would provide all the necessary support for the anti-narcotic agency to fulfill its mandate.

🌎The Nigeria naira set a new record on Tuesday, falling to N1,000 against the dollar at the parallel market, on the confirmation of Dr Olayemi Cordorso as the new Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor by the Senate.

🌎Russia-Ukraine War: After Ukraine claimed to have killed the commander of Moscow’s Black Sea Fleet, Adm. Viktor Sokolov, Russia’s defense ministry published video Tuesday that appeared to show him participating in a meeting. Ukraine said it is “clarifying” information it received about Sokolov.
*Russian drones hit a Danube River port in the Odesa region overnight, injuring two drivers and damaging warehouses, a Ukrainian official said Tuesday. A ferry crossing between Ukraine and Romania was closed following the strike.
*Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday hailed the arrival of the first batch of US Abrams tanks in Ukraine, as the delivery is expected to add a powerful ground component to Kyiv’s forces. Moscow said the tanks “will burn” and won’t affect the outcome of the war.
