🌎Arising from the withdrawal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the Federal Government and the resultant increase in the price of the commodity, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) issued a strike notice which had elapsed and they were poised to embark on a strike billed to commence on Tuesday, the 3rd of October, 2023.
Consequently, a meeting was called by the Federal Government to avert the strike and after much discussion, the following agreements were reached

🌎Oil prices stabilised on Tuesday, after falling to a three-week low in the previous session, on a stronger U.S. dollar, a darkening global macroeconomic outlook and mixed supply signals. Brent futures crept up 2 cents to $90.73 a barrel by 1006 GMT

🌎A London court, on Monday, granted bail to a former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who faces bribery charges filed against her by the United Kingdom (UK) government. District Judge Michael Snow granted her bail in terms and conditions including a curfew that ordered her to stay indoors between 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to Reuters. The judge also ordered her to always wear an electronic tag, and imposed a 70,000-pound surety to be paid before she could leave the court building on Monday.

🌎Chicago State University, United States of America has released to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar the academic records of President Bola Tinubu.
The CSU released the documents to Atiku on Monday in compliance with the order of a United States District Court in Northern District of Illinois.

🌎The Federal Government is set to equip three million Nigerians with tech skills over the next four years. It set a plan to help startups raise their yearly funding rounds to $5bn by 2027, and improve access in rural areas by at least 40 per cent.

🌎Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State says he would appeal the majority judgement of the Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia that annulled his declaration as the winner of the 18 March election.

🌎Nigeria has recorded a total of 1,068 Lassa fever cases across 112 Local Government Areas in 28 states between January and September. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) revealed this in its latest Lassa fever situation report for week 37, spanning 11-17 September.

🌎Security Stories: A set of unidentified gunmen on rampage numbering about eight in a Sienna Bus, at the early hours of Monday, attacked Ezzangbo junction and the Nkwor Donkey market, setting ablaze cars, motorcycles, among others. The hoodlums were armed to the teeth and were wearing masks, chorusing the release of Nnamdi Kanu or they would continue to destroy the properties of innocent Nigerians.
*Troops of the Joint Task Force, South-east, code-named Operation UDO KA II, on Sunday, cleared four camps of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliates in Imo State. The troops, in the course of the clearance, killed two IPOB members and arrested four others.
*The police have released a Catholic priest, Samuel Aniebonem, accused of supporting Biafra agitation in South-east Nigeria. The priest was arrested alongside seven people on 27 September on the accusation that they were members of a pro-Biafra group, the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).
*At least two people have been killed and six others abducted including two traditional rulers by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the southern part of Borno State..
*One person has been killed while four others sustained injuries after gunmen attacked road users along Naka-Agagbe Road in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

 

🌎Russia-Ukraine War: Ukraine said Tuesday it destroyed 29 of 31 drones and one cruise missile launched by Russia overnight. In a Telegram post, Ukraine’s Air Force Command said the targets were destroyed over the Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions
*The European Union’s support for Ukraine is “permanent,” the bloc’s foreign policy chief said after top EU officials met in Kyiv to discuss the war. Ukraine’s foreign minister said negotiations on Kyiv’s EU membership should begin this year.
*US President Joe Biden said he “fully expects” Congress to approve new funding for Ukraine after new aid for Kyiv was not included in a last-minute deal to avoid a government shutdown.
*A pro-Russian figure is poised to begin coalition talks following Slovakia’s election, in what could pose a challenge to NATO and EU unity on Ukraine.
