🌍 FEC Meeting Highlights: The meeting presided over by President Buhari yesterday approved contracts worth over N45 billion for various road, power and water projects.
Highlights include the following approvals:
* N31.629 billion as an additional cost to the initial N66.831 billion contract awarded to Julius Berger for the completion of roads B6, B12 and Circular Road in Central Area District, Abuja.
* N8.180 billion for the maintenance of 10 roads in different parts of the country.
* N4.7 billion as consultancy fee for the management and supervision of ongoing construction of Zungeru power project; extension of the contract time for the consultancy service in the project management and supervision of the ongoing construction of Zungeru at the power project in the sum of 3.5 US dollars and N3. 4 billion equivalent to N4. 7 billion.
* N627,600 for procurement of field materials for water treatment by the FCT and another N200 million for water treatment with the completion period of 12 months.
🌍 Oil Monitor: Oil extended gains on Thursday in light holiday trade as a drop in U.S. stockpiles spurred demand hopes, while hints of an imminent Brexit deal underpinned investors’ risk appetite. Brent crude futures rose 17 cents, or 0.3%, to $51.37 a barrel by 0745 GMT
🌍 COVID-19 Update: Nigeria reports second highest daily toll. The NCDC, yesterday confirmed 1,133 news cases as various states rolled out measures to check the second wave of the pandemic, which also continues to claim lives. Deaths are now reported everyday – 4 yesterday. The national numbers are now 80,922 confirmed cases; 69,274 recoveries and 1,236 deaths.
* England has banned travel from South Africa after two cases of a new “more transmissible” COVID-19 variant linked to the country were found in the UK.
🌍 Bank of Industry has concluded a $1bn syndicated term loan in the international market for further improvement of the bank’s capacity to effectively support MSMEs with affordable loans of medium to long-term tenor with moratorium benefits
🌍 The presidency yesterday alerted the nation about plans by some individuals to embark on a smear campaign against President Buhari in a bid to portray him as a leader that is not in charge of the country’s affairs.
