🌎Update on Deborah’s Murder
Protest for the release of suspects held by the Police over the killing of Deborah Samuel Yakubu, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto, Thursday, turned violent in parts of Sokoto State.
At least one person was killed and many others injured Saturday as police quelled violence.
* Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Saturday, declared a 24-hour curfew in the state, “in pursuance of peace and order in Sokoto metropolis and the entire state.” On Sunday, it announced the suspension of the resumption of basic and secondary schools in the state by one week.
* The Kaduna government has banned protests related to religious activity in the state.
* The remains of Deborah Samuel, were yesterday laid to rest around 6:30pm at the Christian cemetery in her home town, Tunga Magajiya, in Rijau local government area of Niger State. Her uncle, who is the Pastor of ECWA in Tunga Magajiya, Emmanuel Maaji, led the prayers at the cemetery before she was lowered to mother earth.
* The Catholic Diocese of Sokoto said protesters did not kill or injure anyone during Saturday’s attack on the Holy Family Cathedral, Sokoto. Bishop Kukah, who called on Christians to remain law-abiding and pray for the return of normalcy, declared the suspension of all Masses in the metropolis until the government lifts the curfew.

🌎The Nigerian government has released new guidelines for investors in digital assets. The rules issued by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) cover “issuance, offering platforms and custody of digital assets” for virtual technologies, according to a statement on its website.

🌎International Monetary Fund (IMF) has called for the development of a new public infrastructure to connect various payment systems, including digital currencies.

🌎Striking university workers’ unions have said their members would “consider” the appeal by the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) which seeks the suspension of their ongoing strike while negotiations continue
