COVID-19 Update: Nigeria records 2 deaths

Nigeria on Monday reported 385 new cases, 2,330 recoveries and 2 deaths. So far, there are 217866 confirmed cases, 210076 recoveries and 2982 deaths. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said Monday’s reports include backlogs of cases and recoveries

The 385 new cases were reported from 12 States: FCT (116), Delta (115), Akwa Ibom (41), Ogun (33), Cross River (23), Edo (23), Kaduna (10), Rivers (7), Plateau (5), Bayelsa (5), Oyo (5), and Kano (2). There was no data from Lagos.

* Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha says the federal government has initiated diplomatic steps to make the United Kingdom and other countries reverse restrictions imposed on travelers from Nigeria on account of the omicron variant. But he warned that while each country is entitled to put in place measures to protect its citizens, Nigeria has similar responsibilities.

* At least one person has died in Britain after contracting the Omicron coronavirus variant, the first publicly confirmed death globally from the swiftly spreading strain.

* In China, major manufacturing province Zhejiang is fighting its first COVID-19 cluster this year, with tens of thousands of citizens in quarantine and virus-hit areas suspending business operations, cutting flights and cancelling events.

* The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, turned back unvaccinated staff members from its headquarters.

* The Director-General of the National Youth Service  Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, on Monday said, only fully vaccinated Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) will be allowed to register and partake in the scheme, from January 2022.
