36 Niger Delta militant groups threaten fresh attacks on oil facilities

Some 36 militant groups under a new coalition, Continuous Emancipation of Niger Delta, CEND, have threatened to launch continuous attacks on oil and gas facilities in the region following similar attacks on crude oil pipelines in Bayelsa State, in the last two weeks.

The militant groups, in an electronic email on Friday, according to The Sun, listed six demands the Federal Government must quickly meet, or face “destructive attacks” on oil and gas facilities.

Another coalition of nine militant groups in nine states of Niger Delta, Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, RNDA, headed by self-professed “Major General” Johnmark Ezonbi, had on Wednesday, night disowned the seven-point demands of South-South governors, saying they were politically motivated, urging the federal government to reject them. RNDA also maintained that 13 per cent derivation should be paid directly to the oil and gas producing communities and not the present situation where governors collect the money.
