COVID-19 Update: Nigeria logs 198 recoveries, 3 deaths

On Wednesday, 299 new cases, 198 recoveries and 3 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.  So there are now 200,356 confirmed cases; 188,917 recoveries; and 2,640 deaths

Out of the 299 new cases, Lagos State reported 94 cases; FCT, 30 and Oyo State 27 new cases.

Bayelsa State came fourth with 23 cases and is followed by Rivers State with 20. Edo and Taraba states recorded 17 cases each while the North-central states of Kwara and Benue recorded 15 and 14 cases each. Delta State in the South-south registered 11 infections.

Osun and Ekiti reported 10 and nine cases respectively while Gombe and Plateau States reported four cases each. Kano and Ogun states registered two cases each.

* New data from Moderna Inc’s  large COVID-19 vaccine trial shows that the protection it offers wanes over time, supporting the case for booster doses, the company said in a news release on Wednesday.

“This is only one estimate, but we do believe this means as you look toward the fall and winter, at minimum we expect the estimated impact of waning immunity would be 600,000 additional cases of COVID-19,” Moderna President Stephen Hoge said on a conference call with investors.
