COVID-19 Update

In a new milestone, more than 83,000 new cases were reported in the United States on Friday. That breaks the old record of 76,842 cases reported on July 17, according to the COVID Tracking Project, which gathers data from state and local reporting agencies.

The number of Americans currently hospitalized with Covid-19 has also been rising rapidly, reaching 41,485 on Friday, the highest level since Aug. 20.
* Nigeria confirmed 77 new cases and 2 deaths on Friday, raising the numbers to 61,882 confirmed cases, 57190 recoveries, and 1129 deaths.

The 77 new cases are reported from 11 states: Lagos (71), Kaduna (20), Rivers (19), FCT (4), Osun (3), Ondo (2), Sokoto (2), Kwara (2), Benue (2), Imo (1), Ogun (1)
* On vaccines, AstraZeneca resumed the U.S. trial of its experimental COVID-19 vaccine after approval by regulators, the company said on Friday. It says its coronavirus vaccine deal with Oxford University will allow it to add up to 20% of manufacturing costs to cover additional expenses required to be incurred by the British drug maker.
