🌎The Senate, on Tuesday, rejected the controversial National Water Resources Bill, 2023 after it was listed for concurrence on the order paper for consideration and passage. Former President Buhari had in 2017 presented the bill to both chambers of the National Assembly, which seek to transfer the control of water resources from the states to the Federal Government.

🌎Oil fell for a second day on Wednesday as concerns over global economic headwinds deepened, erasing the price gains booked after top crude exporter Saudi Arabia’s surprise weekend pledge to deepen output cuts. Brent crude futures were down 56 cents, or 0.7%, at $75.73 a barrel at 0705 GMT.
* The price of aviation fuel known as Jet A1 has been on a downward slide as soon as the fuel subsidy was removed which jacked up the price of premium motor spirit (pms). Aviation fuel price crashed from over N800 a liter to N650 in Lagos and N680 in Abuja from June 1st while slightly higher in Kano and Maiduguri and Port Harcourt.

🌎President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Senator George Akume as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation at the council chamber on Wednesday. Akume took his Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office in the presence of government officials.

🌎The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced a £2 million commitment by the United Kingdom’s Department of Health and Social Care to support Nigeria in strengthening her health workforce in the vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

🌎A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, dismissed a suit filed by five residents of the Federal Capital Territory, who prayed to the court to halt the inauguration of Bola Tinubu as president.

🌎The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the final list of candidates for the off-cycle governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states on November 11.

🌎The House of Representatives committee investigating the missing 48 million barrels of Bonny Light crude has summoned Godwin Emefiele, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), over an alleged undocumented transaction. The house wants Emefiele to provide details on the N32.5 billion paid to two companies — Messrs GSCL Consulting and Bizplus — without formal records.

🌎Dapo Olumide, chief executive officer (CEO) of Nigeria Air, says the aircraft used for the unveiling of the national carrier was a chartered flight from Ethiopian Airlines. The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has called for the suspension of the establishment of Nigeria Air, describing the exercise as a fraud.

🌎Security Stories: Some Nigerian soldiers died in an attack on a military convoy in the Lake Chad region by jihadist fighters aligned with the Islamic State group, security forces said Tuesday.
* A farmer was reportedly hacked to death in the early hours of Tuesday by suspected militants in the Rafin-Kada area of Wukari Local Government Council, in Taraba State.
* Suspected terrorists have raided six communities, killed one person and abducted 55 residents between Allawa in Shiroro and Pandogari in Rafi local government areas of Niger State.

 

🌎Russia-Ukraine War: Nova Kakhovka dam, a major dam and hydroelectric power plant in the Russian-occupied southern Kherson region of Ukraine suffered a collapse early Tuesday, prompting mass evacuations and fears for large-scale devastation.
Kyiv and Moscow blamed each other for the breach. Ukrainian military intelligence claimed Russian forces destroyed the Nova Kakhovka dam “in panic.” The Kremlin denied involvement and accused Ukraine of “deliberate sabotage.”
The UN has warned that the breach of a dam in southern Ukraine will have “grave and far-reaching consequences for thousands of people” Flood levels in southern Ukraine are expected to reach peak levels after the Nova Kakhovka dam was badly damaged on Tuesday. Ukrainian officials estimate about 42,000 people are at risk from the flooding in Russian and Ukrainian controlled areas along the Dnipro River
