🌎The Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday gave the following approvals:
* N169.7bn for the reconstruction of four roads under the Tax Credit Scheme. They are the road from Bali to Sheti through Gashaka to Gembu in Taraba state – 234 kilometres, at a cost of N95.232bn; and three other roads for reconstruction by a private firm, Mainstream Energy Solutions, at over N74bn in Kebbi and Niger States.
* About N3.5bn for the purchase of a property in Abuja for the Ministry of Aviation.
* Awarded a N553.5m contract for the establishment and deployment of Advanced Report Generation Utility Engine Web-based Reporting Tools in favour of Msssrs Sinecou Limited with a delivery date of 12 months.
* Approval to the Ministry of Agriculture for its National Agricultural Technology Innovation Policy.
* Finance Minister, Zainab Ahmed presented a memo on Phase 3 of the Lighthouse programme on the digital infrastructure of voluntary assets and income declaration scheme bids and tax harmonisation normalisation analytics and application programme interface.

🌎Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed says President Buhari will determine the fate of those ministers who shelved their political ambitions. Some of them attended yesterday’s meeting.

🌎VP Osinbajo has blamed Nigeria’s poor revenue generation on leakage and corruption in the tax system and therefore called for the digitalization of the economy towards placing it among the top-ranked economies in the world.

🌎FG has suspended the Account-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, following his arrest over money laundering and diversion of public funds allegations on Tuesday; and postponed May 2022 federation account allocation committee (FAAC) meeting.
* EFCC has traced at least 17 properties to the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.

🌎Oil Monitor: Prices rose on Thursday, recovering from early losses, on hopes that planned easing of restrictions in Shanghai could improve fuel demand while lingering concerns over tight global supplies outweighed fears of slower economic growth. Brent crude futures for July were up $1.32, at $110.43 a barrel at 0700 GMT
* TotalEnergies has launched the sale of its 10 per cent stake in Nigerian joint venture with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and Shell Petroleum Development Company, (SPDC) and Eni.
* Citing overriding national interest, among other reasons, FG has declined its consent to the proposed acquisition of oil and gas assets belonging to Mobil Oil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) by Seplat Energy

🌎Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) says a comprehensive Diaspora Housing Mortgage Scheme will soon be inaugurated.

🌎The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, dismissed the bail request filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).Ruling on the bail application, the judge, Binta Nyako, held that the issue of Mr Kanu’s absence from court since 2017 must first be determined before his bail request can be heard.

🌎Security stories: Gunmen on Monday killed four members of a vigilante group in Awka, Anambra State.
* Troops of 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, in conjunction with the Nigeria Police, NSCDC, as well as other security agencies, have killed the leader of a notorious gang, Otobong Moses, alias Otoabasi, during a raid at their hideout in Akwa Ibom.
* Dr Rahmatu Abarshi, a lecturer of Kaduna Polytechnic, who was abducted alongside her daughter and driver, three weeks ago, have regained freedom. But her daughter, Ameerah and the driver were still in captivity. The victims were abducted on Kachia-Kaduna road while returning from a charity mission.
* The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Ari Ali, has confirmed the killing of a Dangote truck driver in Asaba, Delta State, by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who set vehicles ablaze on Wednesday.
* A yet-to-be-identified woman was feared killed on Wednesday, when masked gunmen attacked some residents along Enugu-Abakaliki Road, Emene, in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.

🌎2023 Politics: The presidential primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been moved to May 29, 2022; governorship and House of Representatives primary election will now take place on Thursday May 26, 2022. The Senate and House of Assembly primaries will now take place on Friday to the 17th May 2022.”

🌎Russia-Ukraine War: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed decrees to extend martial law and mobilisation for another 90 days in the country. The proposals, starting from 25 May, need to be approved by at least half of Ukrainian lawmakers
* The EU says it plans to spend up to €300bn to end its reliance on Russian gas and oil imports by 2027. The bloc, which gets 40% of its gas from Russia, will source energy supplies from other countries and boost renewables
* A Russian soldier accused of shooting dead a civilian has pleaded guilty in Ukraine’s first war crimes trial
* Russia’s defence ministry says that 959 Ukrainian fighters from the Mariupol steelworks have been taken to Russian-controlled territory since Monday
